Goddess

I was lucky enough to photograph Liz recently--a gorgeous, sexy pregnant woman. With a maternity portrait, my goal is to reveal the inherent beauty and sexiness of the human pregnant form. Yes, I've heard the complaints of feeling swollen, fat, etc. But what could be more beautiful than a woman about to bring another human being into the world? I love trying to document the hope, mystery, excitement, trepidation and the zillion other emotions that accompany pregnancy and motherhood.

Here are a few of my favorites from her maternity session.

With that fall of dark curly hair, and her self-assured, confident manner, Liz put me in mind of a goddess of life and beauty.
If I had to describe my photographic philosophy, it would be a celebration of humanity. Whether it's a wedding, or a pregnancy, or a portrait for posterity, I love showing the many faces and facets of humans. People are so complex, I feel this process will be endless--which is exciting for me as a photographer.

In front of the lens, Part II

Here are a few images from my portrait session with Steven Mastroianni. I was so nervous! This shot was taken with available light and a reflector, in my studio.

Suddenly feeling a little shy here.

Also available light. I think this one looks the most like me. I'm always cracking jokes and I like to laugh.

Outside in the alley, trying to be cool :) It's fun to be creative and spontaneous, and use whatever surroundings are available. I've always believed you don't need a beautiful park or a perfectly flowering shrub to take a good photo.

Even Hamlet got in on the action. I think he was just whining because he wanted to be on my lap.

All in all, it was an enjoyable photo session, and as I mentioned before, I have more sympathy for my subjects now.

In front of the lens

I just got a dose of my own medicine. Steven Mastroianni was kind enough to come over and photograph me because I needed a new portrait for my web site. And just like any client, I started obsessing about what to wear and how to do my hair. He photographed me in my studio with natural light--so odd to be on the other side of the lens!--and we also went outside. It was great to collaborate in my own space, because he saw light that I had never noticed before. I'll post a few photos when he's finished editing them.

Morgan, Danielle and Lydia

I've begun a project of portraits of women. It's a subject close to my heart (pun intended). I do portraits of women every weekend at weddings, and that is intense and challenging. But I'm looking for the many forms, facets and faces of women in these portraits. Or maybe I'll just take pretty pictures. I haven't decided yet. I also don't know how long it will take me to complete. Probably until I feel finished. Years, I guess. But anyway, here are a few of my graceful models.

Such a soft, understated sexiness to this one.

Hooray for window light!

Hard to believe it's the same woman, isn't it?

Stay tuned for more. I have others, but they're nude. And I'm thinking I'll keep this blog nudity free-- for the time being :)

Erika and Tim's Engagement Session

I went to Philadelphia recently to photograph Erika and Tim, who are getting married this May. What a great couple. Tim was a little shy at first, but afterward he said it was much more fun than he thought it would be. I get that all the time! I want to say to all the grooms out there--it's painless! I swear...

Erika has this big smile that just lights up her face, but look what happened when we went a little serious. Look at those eyes!

I love this photo. I think they look angelic, as if they're waiting for all the beauty and happiness their wedding day will bring.

Congratulations, Tim and Erika. I wish you all the best.

Goodbye Day Job

I finally did it. I went full time with my photography business. I am sooo happy. And excited. And exhilarated. And scared. And happy.

Whoo-hoo! Here's to doing what I love on a full time basis! And thus the blog. I'm not saying I'll be utterly faithful about posting once wedding season gets going. But you can certainly check back to see my latest photographic escapades here. And maybe you'll catch a few thoughts on the world, but I'll try to keep the chatter to a minimum. This is going to be all about pictures, pictures, pictures.
